Prayer Quilt Ministry
Every knot is a prayer
Every Thursday morning a group of women meets in the Fireside Room to cut, sew and pray. What they make goes to people in this church family and beyond who are facing serious illness, surgery, a long stay in hospital, or the loss of someone close.
The quilt is finished. The knots are what make it a prayer quilt.
Before a quilt is given away it is laid out on a table on Sunday morning and the members of the congregation tie the knots that hold it together. Each knot is tied with a prayer for the person who will receive it. By the time the quilt leaves the church it has been prayed over dozens of times, and it carries those prayers with it.
How it works
One
Someone asks for a quilt on behalf of a person who needs one.
Two
A quilt is chosen from those the group has made.
Three
The quilt is presented to the congregation. People pray for the recipient by name and tie the knots.
Four
The person who requested it delivers the quilt.
Requesting a quilt
Quilts are made for people connected to this church: those who are part of our church family, members of their extended families, and close personal friends of someone here.
They are given for serious illness or surgery, an extended stay in hospital, or the loss of an immediate family member.
Two things worth knowing before you ask. A quilt is only given if the person is willing to receive one, so please check with them first. And the person who makes the request is the one who delivers it, which is usually the right thing anyway.
Request a prayer quilt
Download the form, fill it in, and email it to the office or drop it off. You can also hand it to any member of the quilting group. The more you can tell us about the person and what they are facing, the better we can pray for them.
Download the request formQuestions, or you would rather talk it through first? Call the office at 250 378-9502 or email office@nicolavalleyefc.com.

Beyond the quilts
The same hands make a good deal more than prayer quilts. Here are a few of the projects they have taken on.
